Lightspeed Install

I had lightspeed internet installed at my office today which is a synchronous fiber internet connection meaning it is the same speed for upload and download.  I have had a lot of internet connections installed over the years, ISDN, DSL, T1, Cable, and this has been the smoothest and highest quality experience I have ever had.

One of the main reasons I chose the location of my office where I did was because Lightspeed had just run fiber across the street. When I called to order service, they said that they would have to do some construction outside to get the fiber to this side of the street, but they could get a crew working on it. I was a little worried it would take a few months to get installed, but it ended up taking exactly a month.

I got the call last week that they were ready to do the install and scheduled it for 8 am yesterday. I walked to work in the morning, and the technician was at the door 5 minutes before 8. I met him as I was walking up. I have never had an install that was right on time and didn't have a five-hour window. The tech looked over the site, and told me the install wasn't going to be a simple 1-hour install, they had to do a lot of routing just to get the fiber into the building. In the end, it took them 6 hours to get it installed, but the completed the job.

The installers worked with the landlord and got the fiber run inside. Then they routed it through the attic and fished it down the wall exactly where I wanted it. When the guy who went into the attic was finished running the fiber, he looked like a chimney sweep from an old British movie.

When he had everything installed he set up my router for me and explained all the technology to me. The installer wasn't just a wire pusher, he really understood the technology and the network behind it. I don't think I have ever worked with an installer that knew more about networks than I do before, but this guy blew me away. He was also very proud of his company and the level of service they provide. When everything was said and done, he showed me a speed test of 1.6GB for a wired connection.

If Lightspeed moves into your area, I would highly recommend them. The level of communication, efficiency, and the quality of their work were A+. I also really like the fact that if you have to call for service, you get to talk to someone local. I just hope they expand their network to include the area where my home is.
