App Races

I really do enjoy writing mobile apps, and I need to find more time to write them. Right now I have three apps in the store, and I have a couple of others in the works. The three that are out there are ad supported, and they come in both IOS and Android versions. When I say ad supported, that really is a misnomer. These apps generate penny's at most. Yesterday was one of my biggest days I have had and all the apps combined made 26 cents. The day before they made 9 cents.

Even though they don't make any real money, I love logging into my admob account and seeing their status. For the longest time, DartOut was the only app I had in the store. I created the app because my son said it would be really cool if there was an app that would tell you the out in and 01 game after we got home from a dart match one night. This app had a very targeted audience, but we played on a league, so it got some traction among out friends and spread a little beyond the area.

The TipRate app was the second app I developed, and I came up with the idea at the bar one night. I hired a graphic artist to come up with the images, so it will take years for the app to cover the costs of development outside of my time, but I figured it might do okay eventually. This month TipRate took over the top position in ad revenue from DartOut, and it looks like I might be on my way to generating over $3 dollars this month for all the apps.

The PennyDate app I wrote because of an idea my girlfriend came up with. We had actually done it with a real penny and had a really good time. The app is silly, and really doesn't do anything, but I thought it might be a fun app that people might like. I have seen some pretty silly ideas take off, so I wasn't going to count it out.

Today DartOut took the number one spot back again. When I logged into AdMob this morning, I felt a little adrenaline spike. It is almost like watching a race in slow motion. As the day went on DartOut remained in the lead. Of course that is probably because neither one of them have generated any revenue today, so it really is slow motion. Its funny, in my head I think of each of the apps having little personas and running along trying to get to number one. It's silly I know, but that is part of being a geek. I created these things, so I try to imagine great things for them. The current standings are as follows:

1st Place - DartOut for Android
2nd Place - TipRate for IOS
3rd Place - DartOut for IOS
4th Place - PennyDate for IOS
5th Place - TipRate for Android

The PennyDate for Android hasn't generated anything, so it is still sitting at the gate. If you are interested in seeing descriptions and screenshots, you can checkout the links below. If you have any idea for an app that you would like to see, leave a comment in the comment section.
